Standards of Acceptable Experience for Professional Grades

Professional experience submitted for classification must be documented, relevant to the applicant’s specialization, and gained under appropriate professional supervision.

Acceptable experience should demonstrate the applicant’s ability to apply technical knowledge, solve practical problems, work with multidisciplinary teams, and take increasing responsibility in professional projects.

The experience must be related to the main field in which the applicant seeks classification, such as engineering, architecture, energy systems, infrastructure, safety, security, cybersecurity, or related technical disciplines.

Applicants should show progressive development from basic technical tasks to more complex responsibilities involving analysis, planning, decision-making, supervision, and professional judgment.

Practical experience gained before obtaining a bachelor’s degree may be considered if it is directly related to the applicant’s field, subject to Council evaluation.

Additional academic qualifications may also be considered during evaluation. A master’s degree in the relevant field may count as one year of experience, while a doctorate degree may count as two years of experience, subject to approval by the Council’s professional classification committee.
